How the heck do people peel these things? I am pretty sure I spent 15 minutes busting this baby open to get to the goods!
I started by cutting it in half and then just pulling the seeds out from between the membranes- throwing pom juice all over the place as I went along. I went from this:
To this:
Apparently, I am a complete goofball. I just looked up "How to Seed a Pomegranate" and found this simple set of instructions from Bon Appetit:
"To get the seeds without spattering red juice everywhere, cut the pomegranate in half and submerge it in cool water. Pry out the seeds in handfuls, and transfer them to another bowl."
That's it?!? I'll enjoy my efforts a little more and use the new trick the next time around.
Do you buy and peel pomegranates? What's your favorite way to enjoy them?
I like mine plain or as a salad topping. They remind me of my childhood since they were a special treat!

haha I wish I saw this last year when I had no clue what to do with a pomegrnate. thanks for the tutorial.
I'm just not a fan of pomegranates, but I don't mind the juice!! haha. I have only had the actual fruit once, and I did not like it. That's not fair though because at the time I was working and in a hurry, I didn't really get to enjoy it. I Should try them again. I don't like to drink juice either, so I may as well try it fresh again!
You know I have NEVER bought a pompegranate! It totally intimidates me. In fact, as many fruits and veggies as I consume I don't know if I have ever even had one! I had def had flavored drinks and desserts with it, but not straight up.. thanks for the advice!
I LOVE pomegranate! I looked up how to cut them before buying one. I would've been frustrated if I tried to peel it!
I like pom juice but not seeds. I tried to peel one once..totally not worth it for me. I just ended up annoyed and frustrated.
I can't deal w/pomegranates. I bought one once and even though I did soak it in water to get the seeds out it was a complete pain!
I leave the seeding to the pros from now on. :)
