Breakfast for Lunch!

Hi Guys!  I went MIA on you yesterday, but stuff happens, ya know?  Nothing too exciting happened, just work- but that's why I get paid!  I'm hitting you really quick with my lunch.
Today I had eggs for breakfast- which never happens because I like my mornings filled with carbs and fats- protein just gets in the way.  When it was lunch time, I wasn't in the mood for salad for once and broke into my breakfast for lunch stash instead:

We've got TJ's organic fat free cottage cheese, Kashi Honey Almond Flax Clusters (hope I got the name right), cashews, and a Tbsp of Peanut Butter.  OMG- protein, fiber, carbs, and heaven all in one!

Oh- and I have to show you- we saw Bambi this morning on the way to work in our neighborhood. Can you see him running across the street?  I am aware that deer is the proper name, but whenever I see one, I get too excited.  We don't live in the country or anything, but we are near a golf course and I guess this little guys was taking a morning jaunt.  There was a bigger one with him, but I couldn't snap the picture fast enough!

Cake Safety in Numbers
Yesterday was birthday cake day at work. You know the drill- once a month the group of individuals you avoid in the halls at work gets together to sing an off-key tune to the poor soul who is another year older.  I don't mind it so much when it's MY birthday, but the crazy amount of lunches, constant candy factory in the kitchen, and monthly mediocre cake days are not the best balance for a healthy girl like me.  The interesting thing was I have never had to justify how I didn't want cake so many times in my life when I was perfectly fine, just concentrating on trying to make conversation less awkward.  I guess large groups of people makes eating treats more fun, huh?  There is also an acceptance that comes along with it as well and maybe makes others feel less guilty.  I love cake- it's my favorite food- but not at 3:00 PM on a Tuesday, especially if it's not special and not my birthday!
What do you think?  Do you give in to make others happy when in a crowd?  I do- but only if it's covered in gourmet chocolate ganache! Otherwise I would spend my days with mediocre pizza and chocolate-less cake. sick.

I hate having food pushed on me in social situations, especially when it's not even that good. I think a lot of times people feel guilty when someone has chosen not to partake, and to make themselves feel better, they turn it on you. Props for not giving into temptation- we all know how much better treats are when you really want them!

i'm fine turning it down generally.... what i hate is when someone *brings* me something that I really don't want
("here kalin! I brought you a ___") cause then you feel rude saying no.

also, not good cake just makes me sad. cake should be delicious.

It makes me feel a little awkward to turn down food in social situations, but in a work environment, where it's someone's birthday every other week, I think I really just had to learn to get over it and say yes only when I wanted what was being handed out!

The cakes always seem to be mediocre - don't they!!

Nope, I don't eat them. They are never worth it. If one looks like it will be SO worth it, then I have a taste to make sure before I take a piece.

OH my gosh you said it soo well the mediocre cake, seriously I used to salivate for it because it felt forbidden...now I really one want to eat good food, so I can turn it down!

that is really annoying when people make you feel like you have to eat something just because everyone else is - i'm all for indulging, but you don't have to have the cake EVERY month, ya know? they should understand that! lunch looks awesome... love breakfast for any meal!

Sometimes I give in, sometimes I don't. It depends on the situation.

what I hate in social situations is that say there is a buffet and I choose to eat the healthy options and the person next to you has a plate load of the crapy stuff and they make it a HUGE deal that you are eating healthy! grrr...this happened to e this past weekend at the wedding brunch I was at. I had special K, skim milk a banana and some extra fruit and I was getting so many comments how I was eating "so healthy" umm no, I am eating how I normally eat, sorry the eggs benedict, and blintzes are not appealing to me!

AWWWW I always turn into a little kid when I see deer or any other random animal when I am driving to PA or out in the island.

I try not to give in to peer pressure but it is HARD when you see everyone enjoying themselves...

We have cake celebrations and forced luncheons for "a job well done" now and again. As usual, they could care less about the healthy employees and only offer fatty, nasty, stick to your thigh type foods. I make an appearance and then slither away and eat my usual healthy lunch. I'm not going to let them pressure me into unhealthy eating. They've already stolen my soul here at work. I have to hang on to something. HAHA! :)
